Port of Concepción del Uruguay handles 30 thousand tonnes of pinewood in simultaneous operations

The Argentine port of Concepción del Uruguay recorded intense cargo activity and draft maintenance during the last weekend of January. On Saturday (31), the bulk carrier African Piper docked at the terminal just three hours after the departure of the Dias Well, which left carrying 17,000 tonnes of pine logs bound for the Indian market.
The term pinus refers to reforested pine trees (exotic species grown commercially), distinguishing this raw material from native species and consolidating the region as a hub for sustainable timber exports.
Operations at the African Piper, the terminal’s second export shipment of the year, are being carried out on a 24-hour schedule. Both vessels follow a two-stage loading logistics process: after leaving Concepción del Uruguay, the ships complete loading their holds at the Port of Ibicuy, also in the province of Entre Ríos, before continuing their voyage to the Port of Kandla, India.
Logistics and Channel Maintenance
Urcel Argentina is responsible for the logistics and export of the cargo, in an operation that mobilizes around 400 workers at each port. To ensure smooth turnover between the departure of one vessel and the arrival of the next, the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU) deployed the suction dredger Niña.
The dredger carried out maintenance work in the access channel, ensuring navigability of the Uruguay River with a depth of 23 feet (approximately 7 meters) and 25 feet of navigation depth between the mouth of the Río de la Plata and the port of Concepción.
Maneuvers and Ship Repairs
In addition to export flows, the port coordinated technical movements last Friday. The tanker Alberto V, operated by National Shipping, was repositioned to the flammables berth (berth 23), where it will undergo repairs. The vessel measures 114 meters in length.
The terminal is also preparing to receive, in the coming days, the training ship GC 43 Mandubí, from the Argentine Coast Guard. This historic vessel is used for officer training, combining theoretical instruction with practical river navigation.
