Portos RS Conducts Nautical Buoy Repositioning to Ensure Safe Navigation
Mar, 28, 2025 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202513
As the entity responsible for maintaining nautical signage, Portos RS has been repositioning buoys and other navigational aids that had drifted out of place since last week. This ongoing operation is crucial for ensuring safe navigation along the channels under its jurisdiction.
In recent days, efforts have been focused on the Setia, São Gonçalo, and São Gonçalo Estuary channels. On Monday (24), teams began the week working in the access channel to the Port of Rio Grande, primarily addressing buoys located outside the breakwater. Lanterns that were either unlit or malfunctioning were replaced to restore proper signaling.
According to the established schedule, repositioning activities will continue on Tuesday (25) in the Nascimento, Coroa do Meio, and Feitoria channels. In addition to corrective measures, Portos RS teams conduct routine inspections of navigational aids, enabling continuous assessments of their condition.
See below a history of container movement via the Port of Rio Grande starting from January 2021. The data is from DataLiner:

If any issues are identified, the maintenance team promptly replaces damaged buoys with units of the same technical specifications, preventing disruptions caused by missing or faulty signage.
