CMA CGM renews Green Marine Europe environmental certification in 2025

CMA CGM has renewed its Green Marine Europe certification, the European maritime industry’s environmental program.

The seal covers 11 key environmental performance indicators that address priority issues related to air, water, and soil quality, as well as the principle of circularity. These indicators include greenhouse gas emissions, nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PM), oil spills, invasive aquatic species, waste management, underwater noise, ship recycling, and leak prevention.

Green Marine Europe upholds rigorous standards through a transparent approach based on three pillars: annual self-assessment, external verification every two years, and the publication of results.

As of 2024, the program expanded to 80 members, including nearly 40 participants in the certification process, representing more than 530 certified vessels across 12 European countries. The program recorded a 14% increase in participants in 2024, reaching a total of 37 certified members, including 32 certified participants (28 shipowners and four shipyards).

CMA CGM has implemented various environmental measures that contribute to its performance within Green Marine Europe. The company equips its vessels with UV-based ballast water treatment systems that use no chemical additives.

This environmental certification provides CMA CGM with a detailed framework to measure and reduce the environmental impact of its maritime activities. Additionally, the company actively publishes its results and participates in working groups aimed at advancing relevant indicators.
