Recife Port completes first-ever alcohol shipment
May, 08, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202322
Last week, the Port of Recife concluded the export operation of a shipment load of alcohol produced in the 2022/2023 sugarcane market year by the JB Group. Curiously enough, this was the first time this type of cargo left the port in the capital of Pernambuco bound for overseas.
This time, 1,98 million liters of alcohol were exported. Five shipments were completed this season, totaling over 8 million liters, which went to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Nigeria.
“This operation broadens the range of business opportunities for the Port of Recife, as other distilleries may be attracted by the path paved by the JB Group,” says Tiago Almeida, executive director of port operations at Agemar, the company in charge of cargo shipment.
The JB Group owns alcohol-producing agroindustries in Espírito Santo and Pernambuco. Until the previous harvest season, the company carried out its alcohol exports through Espirito Santo. Then, however, for logistical reasons, it began operations in Recife.
