Santa Catarina’s Exports Grow 7.52% from January to April

Santa Catarina’s foreign trade is experiencing a positive period, with exports and imports growing in the year’s first four months of the year.
According to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) compiled by the FIESC Observatory, exports rose 7.52% from January to April, reaching USD 3.85 billion.
The main products exported were poultry meat, totaling USD 682.73 million, followed by pork, which brought in USD 544.3 million during the same period.
“We have seen a significant increase in animal protein exports to Japan and China, which are already traditional partners, but also growing sales of poultry and pork to countries like Chile and Mexico,” said Mario Cezar de Aguiar, President of the Santa Catarina Federation of Industries (FIESC).
Electric motors, the third most exported product, generated USD 178.45 million. Engine parts exports totaled USD 134.73 million, while sawn wood exports reached USD 128.43 million.
“Wood product exports have also gained ground, especially with increased sales to China and Europe,” he added.
The main export destination remained the United States, with shipments totaling USD 542.06 million from January to April. China was the second largest market, at USD 372.31 million, followed by Argentina, with USD 294.92 million.
Imports
On the import side, Santa Catarina increased its foreign purchases by 8.45% year-to-date through April, totaling USD 11.4 billion.
Key import items included refined copper (USD 440.9 million), vehicle parts and accessories (USD 300.15 million), ethylene polymers (USD 230.17 million), semiconductors (USD 206.42 million), and nitrogen fertilizers (USD 192.34 million).
China remains the main source of Santa Catarina’s imports, accounting for USD 5.02 billion. The United States ranks second with USD 716.03 million, followed by Chile with USD 687.24 million.
