Santa Catarina reached a significant milestone in pork exports by shipping 69.2 thousand tonnes abroad and generating R$ 4.9 billion in revenue in the first half of 2025. This amount is equivalent to approximately US$904.1 million at the current exchange rate.
According to the State Secretariat for Agriculture and Livestock (SAR), this is the best result recorded by the state since 1997, both in volume and revenue. The strong performance is primarily due to rising demand from Asian markets, including Japan, China, and the Philippines.

Information from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), compiled by the Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri/Cepa), identifies Japan as the top destination for pork from Santa Catarina. Compared to the same period in 2024, revenue from exports to Japan grew by 58.1%.
State Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Chiodini, emphasized Santa Catarina’s importance on the national stage. According to him, the state was responsible for more than half of Brazil’s pork export revenue in the semester, accounting for over 53% of the total. He attributes the strong results to the expansion and diversification of products and destination markets.
Santa Catarina’s governor also reiterated the state’s reputation for sanitary control and reaffirmed its interest in expanding its international market. During a recent visit to Japan, he advocated for the opening of the Japanese market to beef from Santa Catarina, noting that the state already meets the necessary sanitary requirements.
