Sepetiba Tecon handles 2,600 tonnes of steel pipes bound for U.S.

Sepetiba Tecon, a port terminal located in Sepetiba Bay in Rio de Janeiro state, handled more than 2,600 metric tons of steel pipes in an operation that combined road and rail transport before the cargo reached the port.

The shipment highlights the role of intermodal logistics in Brazil steel pipe exports, particularly for project cargo and steel products that require specialized handling and efficient connections between inland transport and maritime services.

After arriving at the terminal, the steel pipes were stored in the operating yard and later loaded onto the UAL Cologne, operated by UAL Shipping, bound for Houston, in the United States.

The operation reinforces the importance of integrating different transport modes to improve logistics efficiency, especially for heavy or oversized cargo and industrial goods.

According to Sepetiba Tecon, this type of cargo movement requires infrastructure capable of connecting the different stages of the logistics chain efficiently.

The terminal has road access designed to avoid interference from major urban centers, as well as rail lines directly connected to its back area and dedicated berths for project cargo.

That structure allows Sepetiba Tecon to receive cargo by different transport modes, store it at the terminal and later transfer it to international maritime services.

The movement of steel pipes to Houston shows how road, rail and sea connections can be integrated to facilitate cargo flows and expand logistics alternatives for customers.

The operation also underscores Sepetiba Tecon’s position as a logistics option for Brazil steel pipe exports and other industrial cargo moving through Rio de Janeiro state.
