The Port of Suape carried out Pernambuco’s largest egg export operation on Friday (March 20), shipping 5 million units to Sierra Leone in a move worth more than 2 million reais. The operation opens a new international route for the state’s poultry sector and reinforces efforts to bring Pernambuco’s agribusiness closer to the port complex’s logistics structure.
The cargo shipped through Suape’s container terminal includes output from three farms located in the Agreste and Zona da Mata regions: Sao Luis, in Sao Bento do Una; OvoNovo, in Caruaru; and Ovos Enavis, in Orobo. The operation was structured by DEP Export Solutions.
The shipment also comes within the framework of the so-called Agro Pact, a partnership between the Suape Industrial Port Complex and the state Secretariat for Agrarian Development, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries aimed at expanding the flow of agricultural output from Pernambuco and other regions through the port.
The initiative seeks to reduce logistics bottlenecks and open new markets for local agribusiness products. In the view of industry participants, the egg shipment is a relevant test for consolidating Suape as a logistics alternative for exporters in Pernambuco.
According to DEP Export Solutions, the operation opens a strategic market for the state’s poultry industry. The company attributed the progress to the ability of local producers to meet international sanitary requirements and to the quality of Pernambuco’s output.
Prior to this recent shipment recorded at Suape, Brazilian egg exports were concentrated across a limited number of hubs, with the Port of Santos maintaining the highest market concentration (146 TEUs in January). The following breakdown illustrates the export share of Brazilian ports in the outbound egg trade, according to Datamar data:

At a meeting with business leaders and industry representatives on Thursday (March 19), Suape Chief Executive Armando Monteiro Bisneto said the operation reinforces the state’s push to expand the port’s role in handling agribusiness cargo. According to him, the goal is to turn Suape into a more important export hub for agricultural goods, supported by its infrastructure and geographic location.
Bisneto also said the next step will be to try to attract fruit cargoes from the Sao Francisco Valley, a segment that has already signed a memorandum of understanding under the Agro Pact and is discussing the use of Suape as an export corridor.
State Agriculture Secretary Cicero Moraes said the operation represents only an initial move in a broader strategy to bring Pernambuco’s agribusiness closer to the port and expand the international reach of local production.
For the Pernambuco Poultry Association, the shipment signals a new phase for the sector. The group’s president, Giulliano Malta, said Pernambuco is Brazil’s fourth-largest egg producer, but still needs to expand its presence beyond the regional market. According to him, in addition to Africa, the Middle East is also on producers’ radar as a possible destination.
Among the participating companies, the assessment is that the shipment validates investments made over the past several years to comply with international standards for quality, biosecurity and regulation. Producers said the operation could open the door to new business and help integrate Pernambuco’s poultry industry more consistently into the export market.
