The administration of the Port of Suape has submitted documentation to the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) seeking approval to lease the SUA 01 terminal to the private sector.
Located in the back area of Quay 4, the terminal is designated for handling and storage of vehicles and Ro-Ro cargo goods that roll on and off vessels, and will also serve as a distribution center for this type of cargo.
The contract is currently under government review by the waterway regulator and will then be forwarded to Brazil’s Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). Once approved, Suape will be authorized to hold the auction, expected in May 2026.
The leasing proposal aims to expand the port’s vehicle distribution operations by attracting private investment. The project provides for a 25-year concession term.
The future lessee will be responsible for investing in the construction of administrative and operational buildings, as well as installing equipment and systems essential to terminal operations.
“Private management increases efficiency and reduces risks associated with high-value cargo, ensuring predictability and safety in the vehicle logistics chain, with less need for public investment,” explained Rinaldo Lira, Suape’s director of Port Development and Management.
The plan estimates a minimum static capacity of 4,218 parking spaces and an annual throughput of around 100,000 vehicles — including passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, utility vehicles, trucks, buses, tractors, and other rolling cargo for both imports and exports.
According to Suape’s president, Armando Monteiro Bisneto, leasing the terminal to the private sector marks a phase of infrastructure expansion and major development.
“We have taken a decisive step toward further strengthening our Vehicle Hub’s competitiveness. We will deliver a modern, efficient vehicle terminal ready to handle additional opportunities. This will attract new investment, generate jobs, and reinforce the automotive sector’s production chains,” he said.
