VLI posts record grain and meal volumes in first half with 10% growth

VLI recorded a new high in grain and meal handling across its integrated system during the first six months of the year. In total, the company transported 11.9 million tonnes of these commodities, 10% more than in the same period of 2024 and 5% above the previous record set between January and June 2023, at 11.3 million tonnes. The cargoes are destined for markets in the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
“We have been operating at a very strong pace since the beginning of the year and achieved the best first semester in VLI’s history. We strive to work side by side with our clients, aligning strategies with a focus on operational excellence and team safety, supporting the flow of commodities with positive results both for the company and for Brazil’s export performance,” said Gabriel Fonseca, VLI’s general manager for Grains and Fertilizers Commercial.
VLI transports grains — soybeans and corn — and meals, the byproducts used in animal feed, through the busiest corridors of its integrated system:
- East corridor, linking the Triângulo Mineiro region to Espírito Santo’s port system via the Centro-Atlântica Railway (FCA);
- Southeast corridor, connecting the Midwest to the Santos port area, also via the FCA;
- North corridor, enabling production from Matopiba to reach global markets through the northern stretch of the North-South Railway, operated by VLI, and São Luís’ port system.
All of these corridors feature strategically located integrated terminals where cargo is transferred from road to rail. The terminals also provide storage capacity to Brazilian producers, helping to mitigate one of the country’s chronic logistical bottlenecks.
