Government Launches Public Consultation for 25-Year Concession of Terminal Area at Rio Grande Port

The government has launched a public consultation this Thursday (January 30) for the concession of a retro port area at Rio Grande Port. This project originates from a private sector interest proposal submitted by CMPC Celulose Riograndense LTDA and Neltume Ports S.A., which contains comprehensive feasibility studies for the paid-use concession of the Ponta Sul do Porto Novo area, located in the municipality of Rio Grande.

The future concession’s purpose is to develop and operate a private-use terminal dedicated to the handling and storage of general cargo, particularly cellulose, for a 25-year period. The projected investment is R$732.8 million, with funds concentrated in the first four years.

The public consultation will remain open until March 3, 2025. Interested parties must submit their suggestions by filling out the contribution form available on the official website and sending it via email to [email protected]. Throughout the consultation period, the technical team of the Secretariat for Gaúcha Reconstruction, the department responsible for public-private partnerships, will address all inquiries.

“This is another concession we are launching. We believe that public-private partnerships are key to boosting investments and delivering better services to the population,” said Gabriel Fajardo, Deputy Secretary of Gaúcha Reconstruction.

The criterion determining the winner of the future concession is the minimum concession fee payment to the state, set at R$ 142.7 million, as a prerequisite for signing the contract. Additionally, the concessionaire will be responsible for investment and restoration obligations, including the construction of a warehouse, two barge berths, two ship berths for cargo loading and unloading, auxiliary buildings and facilities, and port maintenance and operational obligations.

This initiative aims to enhance Rio Grande Port’s infrastructure and operational capacity, fostering long-term economic growth and logistical efficiency.
