Awarded during the auction of the first 2025 block of port lease concessions, held by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) and the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) on Thursday (26), the MCP01 terminal at the Port of Santana (Amapá) will receive the largest volume of investments. Approximately R$150 million will be invested over the 25-year contract signed with CS Infra S.A.

With an area of 30,546 square meters and an estimated annual dynamic capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, MCP01 will undergo paving works, drainage improvements, installation of a fire-fighting system, construction of buildings, and revitalization of waterway signaling. In addition, new equipment will be acquired, the pier will be reinforced, and a shiploader with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes per hour will be installed, enabling the terminal to handle larger vessels. These interventions will expand the handling and storage of bulk solid vegetable cargo, such as soybeans and corn, thereby strengthening logistics in Brazil’s Northern Arc (Arco Norte).

According to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, the result consolidates progress in the sector’s concession agenda. “The Port of Santana plays a strategic role for the North of the country and for the outflow of Brazil’s agricultural production. With this new lease, we expand logistics capacity, attract private investment, and strengthen Brazil’s competitiveness in foreign trade,” he stated.

A Strategic Port in the Northern Arc

Located on the banks of the Amazon River with easy access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Port of Santana is considered one of the main logistics corridors in the state of Amapá and in the Northern Arc region. Its proximity to markets in North America, Europe, and Africa reduces transit times and logistics costs, making the terminal strategic for Brazilian exports.

In 2025, the port handled 3.6 million tonnes, a 17.3% increase from the previous year, according to Antaq data. The entire volume consisted of solid bulk cargo, such as soybeans, corn, wood chips, and manganese.

Exports through the port increased by 7.28% in 2025, and long-haul shipping totaled 2.4 million tonnes (up 5.14%), firmly consolidating the international profile of the Amapá port complex.

Synergy with MCP03 Terminal

The auction of MCP01 reinforces a series of investments the federal government has directed toward Amapá. This new project complements the MCP03 terminal, whose lease agreement was officially signed in February 2025, in the presence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.

With the combined incorporation of MCP01 and MCP03 operations, the Port of Santana significantly expands its operational capacity and consolidates its position as the central logistics hub for agribusiness in Brazil’s Northern Region.
