Brazil’s official trade mission to South Korea secured progress Monday on expanding market access for agricultural exports, with advances in eggs, grapes, pork and beef, Agriculture Minister Carlos Fávaro said.

According to the minister, the South Korean government confirmed it has received the full documentation required to open its market to Brazilian egg exports. Certification is expected to be issued in the coming days.

“The South Korean president confirmed that all documentation for the opening of the Brazilian egg market has been received. We expect the certificate to be issued shortly,” Fávaro said.

South Korean authorities also confirmed plans to conduct audits that would pave the way for Brazilian grape exports, part of efforts to diversify Brazil’s agricultural shipments to Asia.

In the protein segment, Brazil reported progress in expanding the number of states authorized to export pork to South Korea. States recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) as free of foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever will be eligible for evaluation by Korean authorities.

“This is an important step forward for our pork industry,” Fávaro said.

Beef negotiations also advanced. Brazil has sought access to the South Korean beef market since 2008. According to the minister, Seoul confirmed it will carry out inspections of Brazilian meatpacking plants.

“We have met all protocol requirements, and President Lee assured us that audits of Brazilian processing plants will move forward promptly,” Fávaro said.

The developments are part of a broader effort to strengthen sanitary and trade cooperation between the two countries and could open new opportunities for Brazil’s agricultural exports in the South Korean market.

Over the past two years, Brazil has secured access to 538 new international markets for agricultural products, according to the Agriculture Ministry.
