Brazil steel intake up 34% in August month-on-month

Steel purchases in Brazil registered a high of 5.6% in August compared to July, with a total volume of 350.9 thousand tonnes. In comparison with the same month last year, the increase was 16%. The data were released on Tuesday, September 20, by Brazil’s National Institute of Steel Distributors.
Flat steel sales increased by 6.2% on August month-on-month, reaching 334.9 thousand tonnes.
Imports, in turn, ended the month of August with a 34% increase compared to the previous month, with a total volume of 147.7 thousand tonnes. Conversely, compared to the same month of the last year, imports registered a drop of 22.1%.
For September 2022, steel distributors expect that purchases will increase by 3% and sales will decrease by 1% compared to August.
