Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) supported an agenda promoted by the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters, Abrafrutas, to explore opportunities for Brazilian fresh fruit in the Colombian market. The initiative was supported by Brazil’s agricultural attaché in Colombia, Clóvis Serafini.

During the mission, Abrafrutas representatives met with the Colombian Association of Fresh Fruit Importers, Asifrut. The meeting addressed possibilities for expanding access for Brazilian products in the Colombian market, amid interest from local importers in diversifying suppliers.

A significant share of fruit imported by Colombia currently comes from countries such as Chile and Peru. For Brazil, the scenario represents an opportunity to expand its presence in the Colombian market with products known for quality, regular supply and competitive logistics.

During the meeting, Asifrut’s president highlighted the arrival of the first Brazilian Royal Gala apple import in Colombia, received at the port of Cartagena de Indias. According to the association, the product was well received commercially and had a transit time similar to fruit imported from other origins.

Colombian importers also expressed interest in expanding the range of fruit purchased from Brazil. Products mentioned included citrus fruit, nectarines, plums, figs, guavas and persimmons.

The approach to the Colombian market comes as Brazilian fresh fruit exports continue to expand. In the first quarter of 2026, the sector’s foreign sales rose more than 20% in value and 13% in volume compared with the same period in 2025.

The result reinforces the work carried out by Mapa, in partnership with public and private institutions, to expand access for Brazilian products in international markets. Since 2023, 34 new export opportunities have been opened for Brazilian fruit.
