Brazil’s soy, sugar and petroleum exports already surpass June 2019 levels

Data released by the federal government on Monday, June 22, indicates that Brazilian soy exports reached 9.37 million tons in the first three weeks of this month (14 working days) and already exceeds the total volume shipped in June 2019 (19 working days), which reached 8.5 million tons.  Sugar and oil exports have also exceeded the amount sent abroad in June 2019.

According to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), high Chinese demand caused the daily average of soy shipments to increase by 48.6% year-on-year to 670,000 tons in June 2020. Also supported by purchases from China, sugar, beef, and pork exports grew during this period.

The daily average of sugar shipments jumped 87.36% up to the third week of June, compared to the same month of 2019, to 151,800 tons. As a result, foreign sugar sales reached 2.12 million tons this month, compared to 1.53 million tons last June, according to Secex.

Another highlight is oil, average daily shipments of which rose by 50% in the first three weeks of June, to 285,700 tons. Thus, the country accumulated 4 million tonnes in exports, compared to 3.6 million tonnes in June 2019.

Meanwhile, the daily average of corn shipments fell 95.3%, to 2,900 tons, totaling only 41,000 tons exported in three weeks, compared to 1.2 million tons in June last year – when the harvest the second crop of 2018/19 was more advanced. Coffee exports also suffered a drop.
