China Authorizes Pork and Poultry Imports from 106 U.S. Plants

China has approved 106 new U.S. pork and poultry processing facilities to export eligible products starting June 12, according to a notice posted on the website of China’s customs authority.
The approval was issued on Thursday, according to the notice.
This development follows the recent agreement between China and the U.S. to resume a trade truce framework, reached during negotiations in Geneva last month.
The newly approved facilities include 23 pork plants and 83 poultry plants, according to the Chinese Customs database.
In March, China imposed tariffs of up to 15% on $21 billion worth of U.S. agricultural and food products in retaliation for tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on Chinese exports.
Hundreds of U.S. meat plants had gained access to the Chinese market under the “Phase One” trade deal brokered by Trump in 2020. However, many of them lost eligibility earlier this year.
While the registrations for pork and poultry plants have now been renewed, the records for beef facilities remain listed as “expired.”
