The Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services reported that Italian wine exports to Brazil rose by 14% in the first quarter of 2025.
Following strong performance in the first three months of the year, Italy expects to close 2025 with at least 11.2 million liters of wine exported to the Brazilian market.
“This is due, among other factors, to the approximately 32 million people of Italian descent living in Brazil. Additionally, Italy has the largest number of wine varieties in the world, the most native grape types, and the highest number of wines with Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin labels, which represents a strong guarantee of quality,” said Maria Maddalena Del Grosso, director of ITA/ICE – the Italian Trade Agency for the Promotion and Internationalization of Italian Companies in Brazil.
Brazil purchases wines from the European nation mainly from traditional Italian wine regions such as Tuscany, Puglia, Piedmont, Veneto, and Sicily. Meanwhile, regions like Campania, Umbria, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia are still working to gain more recognition among Brazilian consumers.
The Ministry’s figures follow a 12.6% increase in Italian wine exports to Brazil in 2024, totaling 10.9 million liters.
Italy is the fourth largest wine exporter to Brazil, behind Chile, Portugal, and Argentina. On the other hand, Brazil ranks as the fourth largest buyer of Italian wine in the Americas, following the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
