The Public Truck Marshalling Yard serving the Port of Paranaguá handled a record 507,915 trucks in 2025, up 29.5% from 392,214 vehicles in 2024, according to Portos do Paraná.

Covering 330,000 square meters and offering around 1,000 parking spaces, the facility is responsible for organizing, classifying and routing solid bulk agricultural cargo to port terminals, where it is later loaded onto vessels.

The yard also set a new daily throughput record last year. Over a 24-hour period between July 21 and 22, a total of 2,523 trucks carrying grains and meals passed through the facility, 4% more than the previous record of 2,456 vehicles recorded in July 2023. The figure exceeded the yard’s projected handling capacity of 2,500 trucks per day.

All truck movement is managed through the Carga Online system, which informs companies of the specific day and time window in which vehicles are allowed to enter the marshalling yard. The system aims to prevent trucks from arriving early and stopping unnecessarily on highways, which can lead to queues or traffic congestion. It also controls the allocation of trucks to export terminals, helping to reduce traffic impacts in the port area.

Soybeans were the main commodity handled by the facility in 2025. More than 61% of the trucks entering the yard, or 306,801 vehicles, were carrying soybeans. Soybean meal ranked second, accounting for 24.5% or 122,647 trucks, followed by corn with 69,978 vehicles. March and July recorded the highest truck volumes of the year.

“Brazil had a record soybean and corn harvest, which increased truck flows to the port. However, it was the logistics strategies at the marshalling yard that allowed for a faster operation through to cargo loading,” said Luiz Fernando Garcia, chief executive of Portos do Paraná.

Another factor behind the heavier traffic was the increase in vessel loading capacity per call, driven by a higher operational draft. In September 2025, the operational draft at the solid bulk berths was increased from 13.1 meters to 13.3 meters, allowing an average increase of up to 1,500 tonnes per vessel.
