Week 202548

The Itajaí Port Complex recorded a 10% increase in cargo handling over the January to October 2025 period, reaching 12.8 million tonnes. The performance reflects the strengthening of logistics activity in the state and is driven mainly by the operational recovery of the Port of Itajaí, which is experiencing its best cycle since its federalization.

Port of Itajaí regains prominence

After years marked by contractual instability, the Port of Itajaí resumed regular, predictable berthing operations in 2025. In October, the public terminal handled 500,199 tonnes and recorded 43 berths, increasing its share of the Port Complex’s flow.

Specialists note that the Port’s performance has been decisive in increasing the region’s logistics competitiveness, reinforcing Itajaí as one of the main export corridors in the country.

Complex handles 1.5 million tonnes in October

Consolidated data for the month of October show that the Itajaí Port Complex handled:
• 1.5 million tonnes;
• 105 berthings;
• Exports: 707,029 tonnes;
• 45,512 full TEUs and 22,937 empty TEUs.

Below is a historical series of long-haul container handling via the Port of Itajaí. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data and excludes transshipment, cabotage, and other internal movements:

The strong volume keeps the Complex among the most relevant in the country for handling refrigerated cargo, food and high-value-added products.

Port of Itajaí shows consistent growth in exports

At the public terminal, exports also recorded an increase:
• 217,473 tonnes;
• 14,829 full TEUs;
• 3,810 empty TEUs.

Regularity in berthing windows and operational stability have helped bring the Port closer to full capacity, increasing its influence over the Complex’s overall results.

Superintendent: “The Port is experiencing a historic recovery”

For the superintendent of the Port of Itajaí, João Paulo Tavares Bastos, the moment is decisive.

“The Port of Itajaí is experiencing a historic recovery. We regained the confidence of the sector, increased our operational regularity and once again contributed effectively to the performance of the Port Complex. This result is the product of technical planning and governance aligned with the development of Itajaí, of Santa Catarina and of Brazil’s foreign trade.”

He also points to a favourable external scenario for Santa Catarina’s exports:

“The reduction of import tariffs by the United States — from 50% to 40% on around 200 food products such as beef, coffee, açaí and mango — opens new opportunities for the market. With this movement, we have the conditions to close 2025 with even more expressive numbers.”

National relevance

The Itajaí Port Complex brings together the Port of Itajaí and the private terminals located along the channel between Itajaí and Navegantes. Together, they form one of the main export hubs in Brazil, with a strong vocation for refrigerated and food cargo.
