Porto Itapoá recorded, in June 2026, the highest monthly container handling volume since the beginning of its operations. Just over 74,000 containers were handled during the period, setting a new historic record precisely in the month in which the terminal celebrates its 15 years of operations.
The new milestone surpasses the previous record, registered in August 2025, when the port handled just over 73,000 containers. According to the CEO of Porto Itapoá, Ricardo Arten, the result reinforces the terminal’s consistent growth trajectory, driven by the expansion of its operational capacity, continuous investments in infrastructure, and productivity gains. “Reaching the highest monthly volume in history precisely in the month the terminal completes 15 years has a special meaning,” he said.
Another indicator of this growth is that the ten highest monthly volumes ever recorded by Porto Itapoá have all occurred since 2024, demonstrating a new operational phase marked by successive records and the consolidation of the terminal among the country’s leading container ports.
“This is the result of the trust of our clients, the dedication of our employees, and the investments made over recent years to expand our capacity and increase operational efficiency. More than celebrating a number, we celebrate the consolidation of a port prepared to sustain the growth of Brazilian foreign trade,” Arten concluded.
June’s performance also contributes to the strong cumulative result for the first half of the year. Between January and June 2026, Porto Itapoá handled 412,002 containers.
Operational profile
June imports totaled more than 21,000 containers, including dry and refrigerated (reefer) cargo, while exports reached more than 14,000 containers across both categories. The terminal also recorded strong transshipment activity, with more than 15,000 containers handled. Throughout the month, 62 vessels berthed at the port.
In the first half of 2026, China stands out both as the main destination for cargo exported by Porto Itapoá, accounting for 17.9% of exports, and as the main origin of imported cargo, with 49.4% of the total. Among the main export destinations are also the United States, with 16.5%, and Italy, with 6.1%. Among the main import origins are Colombia, responsible for 4.8% of cargo, and Egypt, with 4.5%.
