Truck driver Josué Antônio da Silva, 48, died on Monday morning (June 23) after being struck by a container at a terminal located on Avenida Boris Kauffmann, in the Chico de Paula neighborhood of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo state.
According to the police report accessed by A Tribuna, the incident occurred around 10:05 a.m. The Military Police (PM) were called to the terminal and found that the victim had been maneuvering his truck when the falling container hit him.
Still, according to the report, shortly before the accident, the container had been moved from one stack to another by an employee who is listed as a suspect in the document. A forensic investigation and a post-mortem examination have been requested.
The truck driver’s death was confirmed by a physician from the emergency medical service (Samu), according to the Fire Department. Firefighters also reported that six containers fell at the site due to strong winds.
The case has been registered as involuntary manslaughter — when there is no intent to kill — at the 5th Police Precinct of Santos. When contacted by A Tribuna, the State Department of Public Safety (SSP) confirmed the information and stated that investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the incident fully.
